Safety Level 1: The Basics

Training sessions that will teach participants how to think about safety, quantify risk, determine ethical applications of AI, and practice how to perform a system safety assessment. All training sessions are capped at 10 people to have small, engaged groups where people can ask more questions.

One and a half (1.5) hour, online training session for decision-owners going over the basics of AI safety, including:

  • Defining Safety,

  • Identifying and quantifying system hazards,

  • Applying ethical risk thresholds to a system,

  • Evaluating risk reduction measures.

Prerequisites:

None

Required Materials:

Safe AI Basics handbook

Ideal Participants:

Decision-makers, policymakers, or professionals responsible for compliance, architecture, or analysis of AI augmented systems.

Upon Completion, Participants Will Be Able To:

  • Communicate an actionable definition of safety,

  • Define the boundaries of an AI augmented system relative to stakeholder needs or interests,

  • Identify hazards relative to stakeholder interests,

  • Evaluate system alternatives with a safety framework, and

  • Evaluate and prioritize the level of safety demonstrated by any AI augmented system or subsystem.

Safety Level 2: Application

Training sessions that will teach participants how to think about safety, quantify risk, determine ethical applications of AI, and practice how to perform a system safety assessment. All training sessions are capped at 10 people to have small, engaged groups where people can ask more questions.

One (1) hour, online work session where participants collaborative identify, evaluate, and mitigate real-life system risks. This session can be completed multiple times.

Prerequisites:

The Basics, or equivalent

Required Materials:

Safe AI Basics handbook

Ideal Participants:

Decision-makers, policymakers, or professionals responsible for compliance, architecture, or analysis of AI augmented systems.

Upon Completion, Participants Will Be Able To:

  • Define the processes and workflows performed by a real-world AI augmented system,

  • Identify hazards in the real-world system, their causes, their effects, and the impacts they will have on stakeholders,

  • Estimate the probability and magnitude of the possible negative outcomes defined in the hazard analysis, and

  • Evaluate and prioritize actions that could improve the safety of the examined real-world system.

Abstract Background

Board Training

Board trainings are delivered in small groups that prepare AI experts and process analysts to support non-technical decision-makers, policymakers, and professionals on how to evaluate AI augmented systems with a human-centric, stakeholder informed, safety focus. Any of the trainings identified below can be expanded or modified to suit specific organizations or technology-dependent applications.

Board Member Qualification

AI Safety Oversight Board members are selected from a qualified list of experts who specialize in the skills necessary to evaluate the human-centered impacts of AI augmented systems that have the reach to impact a broad and varried range of stakeholders. Each qualification exam tests proficiency around the safety principles and their application to an augmented system specific to that individual's expertise.

SPECIALTY: Qualification exams can include a peer reviewed case study component that validates the candidate's expertise in an industry or industry vertical of their choosing.

Prerequisites:

The Basics (or equivalent) and Application; prerequisites may be waived if an applicant demonstrates appropriate professional or academic qualifications

Required Materials:

Safe AI Basics handbook

Ideal Participants:

Compliance professionals, technical experts, or system safety specialists seeking assignment to a SafetAI Board.

Upon Completion, Participants Will Be Able To:
